RENOVATION RECAP: 76TH PROJECT

If you're in the market for a home renovation, then you're in the right place. Today, we're going to take a look at our 76th Project located in Scottsdale, Arizona. This full home renovation completely transformed the home's look and feel. From all-new countertops and backsplash to fresh paint, floors, trim, three bathroom remodels, and a 9 ft by 20 ft infinity glass door for an indoor/outdoor living concept, this project had it all. With detailed design plans, we took this nearly 4,000 square foot home and transformed it into something truly special. We were also hired to design all the furniture selections and spatial planning for this stunning five, turned six bedroom home.

*BONUS: Stay ‘til the end (or heck, scroll to the bottom!) and see a list of sources linked for you to recreate some of these design elements in your own home!

Let's start with the kitchen.

Before the renovation, the kitchen was outdated and lacked that fresh modern feel we envisioned this space having. The old countertops were dated and purple, the backsplash/sink needed freshened up, and the island pendants were non existent.

We updated the countertops with a beautiful Quartz from Arizona Tile, and added a waterfall edge slab on both sides of the island. On the front face of the island, we added a shiplap element to add interest and texture. We also got rid of the veggie sink, and updated the electric cooktop to a gas cooktop for easier cooking and entertaining.

The cabinets were in good condition, but their color didn't quite fit our vision for the space. So we changed that to a creamy hue, just a touch warmer than the overall wall paint color, updated the hardware, and they looked brand new! We also added new champagne brass pendant lights to fill the space over the island. Additionally, we added a gorgeous subway tile for the backsplash from Bedrosian’s Tile and Stone to bring in more texture and interest but keep it clean and streamlined. With an all new apron style/farmhouse sink and new Delta faucet, the kitchen turned into the absolute entertainer’s dream!

As an extension of the kitchen, there was a little kitchen nook we also were able to do some quick updates in that went a long ways for the overall feel of the space.

We swapped out the previous wobbly kitchen nook table for a custom made steel framed quartz countertop table that matched the rest of the kitchen. We also exchanged the old chandelier for a more updated light fixture to tie in the champagne brass elements of the kitchen.

Next up, the Primary Bathroom!

Bathroom renovations are one of the best ways to add value and update your home. They can transform outdated and cramped spaces into luxurious retreats that you'll love spending time in. In this project, that’s exactly what we accomplished.

In the Primary Bathroom, we opened up this closed in, cave-like shower by knocking down the glass cube windows and left pillar panel to open it up, and it made a world of difference for how much bigger the overall bathroom felt. We constructed in a beautiful glass panel and door, marble floors, and tile all the way to the ceiling on the surround. We added in a corner bench, and topped it off with luxury champagne brass double shower heads and a handheld shower system.

In addition to the shower renovation, we did marble flooring throughout, painted the cabinets, and updated the hardware, faucets, and lighting.

The big freestanding bath tub near the fireplace in this primary bathroom was an amazing feature, but it felt a little boring. To make it feel like it’s own luxury moment, we added a large chandelier over the tub, replaced the dated window, re tiled the tub surround + fireplace, and matched the free standing tub filler to the shower plumbing.

In addition to the primary bathroom, we renovated two guest bathrooms in this home as well.

The first step in the renovation of the two guest bathrooms was to remove the old tubs that were hardly used, and replace them with spacious walk-in showers. The new showers are fully tiled to the ceiling and feature a glass door that opens into the room, creating a feeling of openness. The floor tiles are beautiful marble hexagon mosaics, providing a luxurious feel to the room. Additionally, we changed the cabinet color and updated the hardware, mirrors, and lighting.

QUICK TIP: When you have the chance to take the bathroom down to the studs like we did here (that just means you can see the framing), we always like to move the plumbing to where you turn the shower on to the OPPOSITE side of the wall or area that the water comes out of the shower head. No one likes to start their shower and get hit with cold water right away! Moving the controls to the opposite side allows you to turn on the water and wait for it to heat up nicely without the stress of getting sprayed with that initial cold water.

The next part of the home we are talking about is the basement! Yes! A basement in Arizona! It’s perfect to escape the heat, and since we added a third bedroom and lounge + game area, it turned out even cooler! No pun intended ;)

The basement used to be one open space, but by extending the closet underneath the stairs to the right, we were actually able to add a third bedroom to the space, which is huge for resale of a home! In the end, the space now has three bedrooms that fit two queens in one room, two sets of bunk beds in the other, a large lounge sofa with a pullout bed, and a full bathroom. We even turned that cute little nook to the left into a fun reading spot for the kids!

QUICK TIP: If you have a big open concept space, but don’t necessarily need the open room, try to create a bedroom! Your re-sale value of the home will go up, and you’ll be entertaining guests in there in no time!

Finally, let’s move on into the living room!

We of course couldn’t talk about this project without mentioning the insane transformation in the living area. It went from closed off and secluded, to a wide open, indoor/outdoor living concept. We knocked down and reframed the wall and replaced it with this 9ft x 20ft glass sliding door. The views of the backyard and outdoor living area (including a custom outdoor fireplace we also designed!) had this space feeling absolutely luxe upon entering the living room! As much as we are boasting on this space, you’d think we would have taken tons of photos of it from the inside, but alas, we did not! Although we are bummed we can’t show you the FULL reveal from the inside on this space, we thought we would show you a couple photos from construction, the beautiful natural light that now pours into the living space, and then a little peek from the exterior view for you to still get an idea of just how beautiful this area of the home turned out!

Beyond these upgrades we did exterior renovations such as paint and new pavers, resurfaced the tennis court in the back yard, painted the exterior and exterior trim, and gave a little facelift to the fireplace in the lounge room. This interior design project was a huge success, and one for the books! To check out more photos from this project, you can check out the gallery of photos in our projects under 76TH PROJECT.
